Usually, bearings temperature begins to slowly rise as the SKF bearing operates, 1-2 hours to a steady state. Normal temperature of deep groove ball bearings varies in thermal capacity, heat dissipation, speed and load. If lubricated, installed appropriately, bearing temperature is rising quite sharply, abnormal high temperature will appear, and then you must stop and take the necessary precautions.
Heat sensors can monitor bearing temperature at anytime, and alarm when temperature exceeds a specified value or prevent the burning shaft accident.
High temperature often means in abnormal situations. High temperature is also harmful to the SKF bearing lubricant. Sometimes bearing overheating can be attributed to the lubricant. If bearing continuously operates for long term in temperature of more than 125°c, its life will be reduced. Causes of high temperature of bearings include: inadequate or excessive lubrication, lubricant containing impurities, excessive load, bearing damage, inadequate clearance, high friction by oil seals and so on.
Continuously monitoring the temperature of SKF bearings are therefore necessary, regardless of measuring bearing itself or other important parts. If in the case of the same operating conditions, no temperature change may mean that the failure has occurred.
