Effect on SKF deep groove ball bearing service life by vibration and temperature

Vibration is sensitive to SKF bearing failures, such as peeling, rust, creasing, cracks, and wear, are reflected in the vibration test of deep groove ball bearings, so by using a special vibration measuring instrument (frequency Analyzer, etc) you can measure the amplitude of the vibration, through frequency not infer exceptions to the specific situation. Infer the specific circumstances of the exception by the frequency distribution. Because the measured values differs due to the use conditions or the sensor-mounted position of the bearing, therefore require prior to analysis and compare of the measurements on each machine then determine the judging criteria.

Temperature of the bearings, can generally speculated from outside of room temperature. It is more appropriate to directly measure the temperature of bearing outer ring if using oil hole.

Usually, bearings temperature begins to slowly rise as the SKF bearing operates, 1-2 hours to a steady state. Normal temperature of deep groove ball bearings varies in thermal capacity, heat dissipation, speed and load. If lubricated, installed appropriately, bearing temperature is rising quite sharply, abnormal high temperature will appear, and then you must stop and take the necessary precautions.

Heat sensors can monitor bearing temperature at anytime, and alarm when temperature exceeds a specified value or prevent the burning shaft accident.

High temperature often means in abnormal situations. High temperature is also harmful to the SKF bearing lubricant. Sometimes bearing overheating can be attributed to the lubricant. If bearing continuously operates for long term in temperature of more than 125°c, its life will be reduced. Causes of high temperature of bearings include: inadequate or excessive lubrication, lubricant containing impurities, excessive load, bearing damage, inadequate clearance, high friction by oil seals and so on.

Continuously monitoring the temperature of SKF bearings are therefore necessary, regardless of measuring bearing itself or other important parts. If in the case of the same operating conditions, no temperature change may mean that the failure has occurred.

In the actual production, length of the fixed deep groove ball bearing life directly related to normal use of the machinery and equipment and production. There are a lot of bearings losing effectiveness in the far reaches of design life due to damage. Failure bearings used in production can have severe vibration and noise, also will enable the relevant parts damaged, culminated a series of adverse effects.

1, Reasons for premature failure of bearings

Causes of premature failure of deep groove ball bearings are multifaceted, but the main causes are to improperly use and maintenance and improper lubrication, pollution overload, occur impact and shock during assembling, transporting, dismantling process. Pollution is caused by human factors, that is, the removal tool isn’t washed.

Clearance between the shaft and shaft is too large, leading to relative movement between the two ones. On one hand, excessive wear of the axis results in growing gap, eventually causing the bearing scrap; the other hand, SKF bearings have cracks, affecting the precision of the movement. These reasons cause bearings premature failure, are bad for our actual work. Therefore, studying how to avoid premature failure of bearings, lengthen service life is of great practical value.

2, How to avoid premature failure of bearings

The most effective way to prevent premature failure of deep groove ball bearing is to avoid the various factors above analysis and criteria that contributed these factors: first of all, before selecting SKF bearings, take into account of the size of the noise, rigidity, bearings-radial crack, rotational torque, etc. Select the right lubricating oil depending on different working environment, because different lubricants in use generate different noises.
